A Guide to Natural Deodorants

My loves,

To say it’s been a long time would be an understatement. I’ll give you a brief breakdown of what I’ve been up to, so please forgive my long over due absence.

I recently got back from living in Australia for a year and lets just say it’s been a bit of an adjustment. It was extremely hard for me to blog while I was away because I was trying to save money and buying beauty products was my first way to cut costs. I also was living with a tiny Ipad mini, which is just plain annoying to try to blog with.

So there you have it. I’m back. But don’t get too excited, I am going to try my very best to post more often, I can’t say that it will be very consistent, yet…

So what prompted me to get back to it; a company that specifies in reviews contacted me regarding natural deodorant. Now I don’t know about you but I am constantly trying to find a natural deodorant that a) Actually works b) Smells good and c) That is affordable. Which is why I got really excited when they contacted me, asking me to share their post on the best natural deodorants out there! So here you go my loves, the ultimate guide to natural deodorants.

You can find all the reviews and information about natural deodorants here.

I hope this helps you find the best natural deodorant that will suit your every need.

Tip: When you first start the transition from regular deodorant to natural deodorant, it can sometimes take the body a little bit of time to adjust. Something that really helped me when I made the switch was to alternate between the deodorants.

Day 1: Use natural deodorant. Day 2: Use regular deodorant. Continue with this for a week and then slowly start to use the natural deodorant more often. Hope this helps.

Oh how I’ve missed you so. Have a lovely long weekend.

Mani Monday| Go Jays Go!

My loves,

And the slacker of the last few months goes to… Laurelle Alexandra. Sorry guys for being an epic failure to keeping up with my blog. Sometimes life just happens, doesn’t? Anyways, in the spirit of the Blue Jays doing so well this season I thought a themed manicure in honour of them was absolutely necessary!

Non-Surgical Beauty Treatments

My loves,

The beauty industry is forever changing and advancing and with new technology there are many surgical and non-surgical beauty treatments. There is the constant debate whether plastic surgery, lip injections etc. are taking beauty treatments too far. Are we taking it too far? Should we really be altering our image? How vain has our society become? However, there are many non-surgical beauty treatments that I for one am all about and would love to try. And I’m not going to lie Botox and filler can be very tempting. What are your thoughts on surgical and non-surgical beauty treatments? Check out this article that explains 5 Top Non-Surgical Beauty Tricks. Latisse, Chemical Peels and Medical Grade Skin Care products are all the hype right now. And let me tell you these products work.

Plastic Surgeons’ Top 5 Non-Surgical Beauty Tricks

I’m always on the hunt for the latest beautification tips, and I recently got inspired to check out a source I’d never really thought about: plastic surgery practices.

A friend told me a few weeks ago about a TIME magazine article she had just read called Nip. Tuck. Or Else. that described how a visit to the plastic surgeon’s office may someday soon become just a regular part of health and beauty maintenance, like getting a haircut. Just think: You could tune up your face with BOTOX® and fillers every 6 months, get laser treatments in between, update your breast implants every 10 years, and get a facelift every 15.

OK, maybe I’m not ready for that kind of commitment yet, but it still got me thinking (and Googling) about plastic surgery services. I was pleasantly surprised to find that many practices seem to be geared toward a more inclusive — and less invasive — approach to beauty care.

For example, I found the Oakville plastic surgery practice Cosmedica, which seemed to focus more on the non-surgical side of cosmetic enhancement. My overall impression at this point is that many plastic surgeons are trying to capitalize on the med spa phenomenon, which I totally understand both from a business standpoint and as a potential patient.

After doing my research, I figured I ought to share the love. Here is my countdown of the top non-invasive treatments you can get from plastic surgeons.

No. 5: Photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation harnesses the power of light to help rejuvenate your face. The most popular and effective form is called intense pulsed light, or IPL. It can reduce the appearance of acne scars, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, fine lines, and wrinkles in quick, painless treatments. Check out some of the awesome before-and-after pictures at RealSelf, a popular cosmetic enhancement forum, to get a better idea of what IPL can do.

No. 4: LATISSE® Lashes

If you are even a little familiar with the beauty world, then you know about LATISSE and the wonders it can work on your lashes, causing them to grow thicker and darker. I know a number of women who use LATISSE as just another step in their beauty routines. You need a physician to prescribe the popular serum, and most cosmetic surgeons are happy to oblige.

No. 3: Chemical Peels

I have been getting facials semi-regularly at spas for years, and I’ve considered making the leap to chemical peels. Both treatments help exfoliate and restore skin, removing impurities and adding vital nutrients. Now, as I’m getting older, I’m considering getting a peel at a plastic surgery practice. The nice thing about that is you can choose the intensity of the peel from a gentle “lunchtime” peel to an entire facial sloughing under the guidance of medically trained professionals.

No. 2: Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is similar to a peel in that it helps remove the damaged surface layers of skin, but it uses the targeted precision of a laser. There are lots of laser devices out there that are designed for lots of different concerns, from acne scars and dark spots to wrinkles, and they’re customizable treatments. They’re completely safe and very effective when performed by a trained provider, and they rarely require significant downtime.

No. 1: Medical-Grade Skincare Products

I know skincare products might seem tame compared with lasers, but hear me out! Imagine someone with years of medical training that has dedicated his or her life to studying skin. Now, imagine that person examines your skin specifically and helps you pick out a regimen custom-tailored to your skin type and issues. The regimen contains products that are more powerful than anything you can get at the drugstore, and it’s designed to target your current issues and prevent future ones. Sweet deal, right? I rest my case.

So, there are my top non-surgical plastic surgery procedures! I want to emphasize that although many of these treatments are also available at salons and spas, the results just won’t match up to those provided by medically trained providers. These folks know what they’re doing. Make sure your provider is licensed and experienced!

Have you had any non-surgical procedures at a cosmetic surgery practice, or are you planning to soon? I would love to know about your experience.

I promise I will try much harder to get these posts out. I have many products to share with you all. Look Beauty| Intensive Lip Care Gel Patch

My loves,

Since winter has decided to creep up on us again here in Toronto, which then of course makes my skin suffer! Especially my poor lips, they are so dry! While in Shoppers Drug Mart (I keep finding the best products in Shoppers lately) I came across these beauty treatments from Look Beauty, for you face, for your hands, for your feet and of course for your lips! So I of course snatched up the lip treatment, because my lips are in dire need of some tender love and care!

IMG_5863“Enriched with Shea Butter, Cranberry Extract, Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E, Intensive Lip Care Gel Patch intensely hydrates and soothes dry, cracked, chapped lips, while long-lasting moisture makes your lips soft, supple, smooth and kissable. Especially made with a unique lip-shaped patch, this advanced hydrogel formula is the most effective and convenient way to protect lips and sensitive lip areas. Perfect for dry, cold or windy days.”

Available at Shoppers Drug Mart

DIRECTIONS: 1) Thoroughly clean and dry your face.
2) Open the packet and remove the patch from plastic liner.
3) Apply the patch to lip areas with shiny side facing your lip.
4) Wear the patch for 15-20 minutes and remove slowly from the edges. Gently massage remaining essence into the skin.

IMG_5878(Admit I look adorable)

Okay so I’m not going to lie but wearing a gel patch over your lips for 15-20 minutes proves to be quite difficult. Especially if you are someone like me who a) loves to snack or b) can’t seem to shut up. However, there is a distinct possibility that I found the need to talk and eat far more than usual once I put the lip treatment on, I swear I’m like a 5-year-old. However, this treatment is the bomb because my lips have never felt or looked so good in such a short period of time. It’s a magical little gel patch I tell you. I’m definitely going to have to grab me some more of those!

Have you tried Look Beauty’s Intensive Lip Treatment?

Annabelle| Lipsies

My loves,

I was in Shoppers Drug Mart the other day picking up a few things when I stumbled across Annabelle’s Lipsies collection. I almost walked right by but something caught my eye. They were so colourful and cutesy. Now as you all know I am such a makeup snob so I usually steer clear of such products, but I knew I just had to have one. I decided to go for a more subtle sheer shade and grabbed the Coco-Vanilla flavor (obviously), if any of you know me you know Vanilla is my favorite scent!

IMG_5734“GET LIPLICIOUS with this tinted retractable lip balm! The ultimate treat for your lips!

One swipe adds the perfect hint of shiny colour for lips that feel soft, smooth and moisturized.

  • 12 cool aromas.
  • Hydrating non-sticky glossy balm.
  • Sheer colour.
  • Easy-to-use retractable crayon format.
  • Funky and fun design.
  • No sharpener needed.

Well, I am sincerely happy I snatched this little lippie because I love it. It keeps my lips feeling soft and moisturized and it smells sensational. If you love vanilla scents as much as I do you will definitely enjoy this tastefully sweet scent. This particular lipsie doesn’t provide much colour for the lips but it does leave the lips looking luscious and shiny. It’s the perfect lip balm for every day use when you are looking for moisture but not too much colour.

Have you tried Annabelle’s Lipsie’s?

Mani Monday| Give Me A Museum and I’ll Fill It

My loves,

As most of you might already know before I became a Makeup Artist and Esthetician I was first an artist and I guess you could say I still am an artist. When applying to Universities in my last year of high school I actually had been applying for Art first and for most. I really thought I’d end up at an Art school painting and drawing. But sometimes life has a different plan for us, which is how I somehow ended up in the beauty industry. I’m lucky though because I still get to carry out my passion for art every single day through makeup and nails, its just a different canvas. And this particular nail design reminds of my painting days.

IMG_2928 IMG_2932_2 IMG_2935 IMG_2938One of the reasons why I love doing nails so much is having the opportunity to create and try endless designs. I get to paint art on my clients nails on a day-to-day basis, which is pretty freaking cool. This is definitely one of my favorite nail designs, it’s abstract and overall really funky.
